AKRON — Donna Moonda started her fight for her life today in U.S. District Court here.
Her attorneys told jurors that she suffers from a personality disorder which causes her to be easily manipulated.
She was convicted earlier this month in the May 13, 2005, shooting death of her wealthy husband, Dr. Gulam Moonda. Jurors are now deciding whether she will receive a sentence of life in prison or death.
Prosecutors called two witnesses this morning, Dr. Faroq Moonda, and Dr. Iftikhar Chatha, to testify about the victim's life and contributions to society.
Damian Bradford, 26, of Beaver County, Pa., was sentenced to 17 and one-half years in prison last week for his role in the slaying. Bradford was the admitted shooter, saying he conspired with Moonda to kill her husband. He made a plea deal with prosecutors in exchange for his testimony against her.
Donna Moonda was convicted of murder for hire and aiding and abetting her husband's death.
