Trustees will look into whether sewer bills will increase with water rates.

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees adopted a resolution in support of Western Reserve Port Authority’s obtaining a grant for a small community air service development program.
The port authority is hoping to obtain a federal grant through the Federal Aviation Administration to entice a commercial carrier to Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
At their meeting Tuesday, trustees also discussed the recent increase in water rates by the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District, which oversees the Meander Reservoir, the area’s domestic water source.
Trustee Fred Bobovnyk told resident June Lucas he would check with other political subdivisions in the county who bill for water and sewer services to see if they planned to increase sewer bills in light of the water rate increase.
Different subdivisions are furnished with water from MVSD by smaller communities in the county.
In other business, Trustee John Vogel advised residents that he has been in contact with American Tower Corp., which plans to expand a cell phone tower operation it has on the Morocco Services property at Woodfield Road and Ohltown-McDonald Road.
Vogel said the firm made plans to expand the cell tower without first notifying nearby residents of the plan. Vogel said that is a violation of state law.
Although he said he doubts that will stop an expected 100-square-foot land addition to the tower property, he said Carmen Rajmani of the company has contacted him and asked that residents who say they are having telephone interference from the cell phone tower contact him.

Vogel added, “I don’t see us stopping them, but at least we tried.”
Trustees passed a resolution in June objecting to the expansion, and Vogel said the expansion has prompted state lawmakers to prepare legislation to place more control on cell phone tower operations.
