Butler to sponsor arts camp for children

YOUNGSTOWN — The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., will host its annual Summer Arts Day Camp for children Tuesday through Friday and July 23-27. “Take a Magic Carpet Ride” is the program theme.

The program is designed for children 8-12 years of age, and can accommodate children with special needs. The camp uses an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to the disciplines of visual art, music, drama and dance. Each day of the eight sessions, youngsters will be instructed in these arts disciplines by professional artists who are assisted by community volunteers. Morning activities will occur in Butler North, the museum’s education center (former First Christian Church). Each afternoon, a visiting artist or special event is planned for campers in the Butler’s Beecher Court atrium space.
