Two face charges in career center blaze
CANFIELD — Investigators have charged an 19-year-old Alliance man with obstructing official business, and expect to charge a 17-year-old girl, in connection with the fire that caused an estimated $4.5 million damage to the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.
Kyle Layne, 19, of Alliance, a former West Branch High School student, is charged in Mahoning County Court here. Authorities said he provided inaccurate information during the investigation.
The girl, a South Range graduate, is expected to be charged this week in Mahoning County Juvenile Court with criminal damaging/endangering, and obstructing official business. A cigarette lighter caused vapors from a solvent to ignite May 4.
Both students were seniors at the time of the fire and have graduated.
