Naval Academy graduate

Marine 2nd Lt. Kaitlin Kempe, daughter of Rich and Sue Kempe of Austintown, has graduated from the U.S Naval Academy, where she majored in history. Kempe, a 2002 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, is assigned to basic training in Quantico, Virginia.

MISCELLANEOUS

Sgt. enjoying vacation

Sgt. Robert Kirkpatrick, Army Infantry, is enjoying two weeks of rest and relaxation from his personal security detail duties in Iraq. Friends can reach him in Girard until July 17.

While deployed, Kirkpatrick provides security for brigade command officers traveling through Urban Baghdad Zones. He has been responsible for escorting high-level civilians, including former and current secretaries of defense, Donald Rumsfield and Robert Gates.

National WAVES meeting

KENT — The national meeting for Unit 21 of the North Coast WAVES will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Otto’s Restaurant, 4112 Brimfield Plaza. The Melodiers will sing patriotic music. Call (330) 757-7827 to register for the $15 luncheon.
