Durkin’s triple, balk lift Simon to 6-5 win in series final

Dave Sugar Construction advanced to the other semifinal series, 7-5.

STRUTHERS — Matt Durkin tripled to lead off the 10th inning and later scored on a balk, lifting Simon Roofing to a 6-5 victory over Astro Falcons in the deciding game of a Class B first-round playoff series Friday night at Cene Park.

Simon Roofing advanced to play R&J Trucking in a semifinal series, starting tonight at 8. Dave Sugar Construction will play Rondinelli Tuxedo at 6 p.m. in the first game of the other semifinal series.

Frank LaRubbio had two hits for Simon Roofing. Mark Novotny was the winning pitcher with three innings in relief of Ryan Gruszecki.

Mike Dota had three hits and Joe Bako had two for Astro, which rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score at 5.

Dave Sugar 7, Livi Steel 5

Sugar advanced with an 11-inning victory Thursday night.

Justin Shaffer was the winning pitcher with 5 1/3 innings of relief, and Dane Dobson’s two-out single in the 11th inning provided the go-ahead run. Jeff Musick had three hits and Justin Shaffer added two for Sugar.

Bobby Revesz struck out 18 batters in 10 innings for Livi.

Mark Revesz and Josh Swepis had two hits apiece for Livi.

Warren AA

WARREN — Jeff Claar and Joe Hardy had three hits each, leading Skiffey Neopolitan Dental over PI&I Express, 7-5, in a Warren AA game Thursday.

Claar, Adam Morgan and Pat Stantial all hit doubles for Skiffey, and Andrew Burnett had two RBIs.

Dave Patrick tripled and doubled, and drove in three runs for Express. Chris Staley added a pair of singles and Tom Jones hit a double.

WARREN — Don Marsh pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 for CIP.

Nick Zajaczkowski singled twice and added a pair of stolen bases for CIP, while Cliff Panezich and T.J. Trevis had two RBIs apiece.

Vasili Pahoulis homered and Rick DiMuzio added a pair of singles for the Knights.

Champion Marlins 2, Reds 1

WARREN — Mike Sweeney had the only hit for the Marlins, an RBI single, but it was enough.

Josh White had a double for the Reds, and pitcher Nat Daugherty struck out 10 in a complete game.
