MERCER COUNTY Sentencings These people were sentenced last week in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

Randy Snyder, 31, formerly of Union City and now of the State Correctional Facility at Camp Hill, sentenced to nine to 24 months in prison and ordered to make restitution for a consolidated count of theft by deception. Court documents state that in February and March, 2002, Snyder failed to pay a Carpenter Road, Sandy Creek Township couple $5,500 for removing timber from their yard according to an agreement he had with them. He also cut $8,837 worth of trees that were smaller than he was authorized to take.

Joseph Burkes, 42, of Croton Avenue, New Castle, sentenced to 18 months’ parole followed by 18 months’ probation for two misdemeanor counts of retail theft. Burkes stole a $28 personal CD player and batteries valued at $28 from Family Dollar Store, 100 S. Water Ave., Sharon, on Aug. 25, 2006, and took $26 worth of food from Shop N Save, 2199 E. State St., Sharon, on Oct. 14, 2006, court documents state.

Gerald Detelich, 37, of Dutch Lane, Hermitage, sentenced to 18 months to four years in prison and ordered to make restitution for retail theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle, both misdemeanors. Detelich stole a $6 package of socks July 8, 2006, from Family Dollar Store, 100 S. Water Ave., Sharon. He already was on probation for a previous conviction for unauthorized use of a vehicle when arrested for the sock theft. As a result, his earlier probation was revoked and prison time for that offense was included in his sentence.

Michael Hurst, 22, of Fifth Avenue, Sharon, sentenced to 27 months to nine years in prison for felony robbery and possessing instruments of crime, a misdemeanor. According to court documents, Hurst robbed a man at gunpoint Feb. 10, 2007, in the 600 block of Beechwood Avenue, Farrell, holding a pistol to the side of the victim’s head and demanding money, then firing the gun twice into the air.

Larry Lowe, formerly of Liberty Street, Sharon, and now of the Mercer County Jail, sentenced to 30 months to seven years in prison for simple assault and possessing instruments of crime, both misdemeanors. He stabbed a woman in the neck with a razor knife Sept. 4, 2006, at his former residence. Surgery was needed to close the woman’s serious throat laceration, according to court documents.

Justin Moss, 30, of Stambaugh Avenue, Sharon, sentenced to six to 18 months in the Mercer County Jail for felony retail theft. Court documents state he stole a pair of $66 tennis shoes from J.C. Penney, 3405 E. State St., Hermitage, on July 19, 2006. The offense is a felony because it was his third or subsequent.

Justin Porterfield, 19, of Filer Way, Sharon, placed on two years’ probation for possession of a weapon on school property, a misdemeanor. Court documents state that on Oct. 23, 2006, Porterfield, a student at Hickory High School, Hermitage, at the time, turned over a large folding knife to school officials while they were discussing a disciplinary infraction with him.

Caroline Hodgson, 29, of Jackson Street, Jamestown, placed on two years’ probation for hindering apprehension or prosecution, a misdemeanor. According to court documents, on June 28, 2006, she concealed the whereabouts of a wanted fugitive by telling Pennsylvania State Police he was not at her residence.

Donald Keller, 19, of Pine Hollow Road, Hermitage, ordered to make restitution for conspiracy to theft from a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. In January and February 2006, he and another person stole three checkbooks, two boxes of checks, two cell phones, 144 CDs, a CD holder, cash and miscellaneous items worth a total $3,400 from nine vehicles parked on various streets in Greenville, court documents state.

Joshua Kristyak, 25, formerly of Hadley Road, Hadley, and now of the Mercer County Jail, sentenced to 11 to 23 months in jail for felony robbery. He was given credit for 363 days already served. On June 13, 2006, he brandished a gun and demanded money from a cashier at Last Minit Mart, 101 Liberty St., Jamestown, court documents state. He took $234 cash from the store.

Quinton Mosley, 21, of East Connelly Boulevard, Sharon, sentenced to 18 to 36 months in prison for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony. Court documents state Mosely was apprehended June 1, 2006, on Quimby Street, Sharon, with cocaine, a small amount of marijuana, and a scale.

Cole Parker, 28, of Alhambra Way, Greenville, sentenced to 60 days to 23 months in jail for recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor. He was given credit for 86 days served and paroled. Court documents state he choked a female victim at his residence until she was unconscious, and hit her on the face and head several times causing bruising and swelling of her face and injury to her jaw.

Eric Stallsmith, 32, of Hamburg Road, Greenville, placed on two years’ probation for recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor. He also was ordered to make $24,680 restitution to his victim. Court documents state that on April 15, 2006, Stallsmith punched another man in the head until he was bleeding from the nose and ears and lost consciousness. The victim suffered a severe concussion.
