NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man accused of manslaughter in the death of a Pennsylvania State Police trooper’s daughter is back in jail.
Lee A. Campbell III, 18, had been free on $100,000 bond after the Nov. 1, 2006, shooting death of Kayla Jones, daughter of Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Eric Jones.
But court papers filed Tuesday to revoke Campbell’s bond state that officials received information that Campbell and another person were planning to leave the area.
As part of Campbell’s bond agreement, he was ordered to remain in Lawrence County, stay away from the victim’s family and two witnesses who were in the house when Jones was shot.
According to court papers, when Campbell was found by police on Florence Street in New Castle, Campbell was with one of the shooting witnesses.
Police said they also detected a strong odor of marijuana and Campbell did test positive for drug use by county probation officials.
He is being held on a bench warrant until a hearing at 1:30 p.m. Thursday before Judge J. Craig Cox of Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
Campbell is charged with involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person and aggravated assault.
Witnesses at Campbell’s preliminary hearing testified that Campbell, who was Jones’ boyfriend, was trying to untie a string from a gun when it fired. Jones, Campbell and another woman were in the bedroom of a Chestnut Street home. Jones died a short time later at Jameson Memorial Hospital.
