Super Nationals to be held at track despite auction

SALEM -- The Steel Valley Super Nationals are still on for this June although its venue is scheduled to be auctioned.
The Quaker City Drag Strip at 10359 W. South Range Road, is to be auctioned at 10 a.m. Feb. 24.
The sale will be broken down into nine tracts that cover about 181 acres. Different tracts include vacant land, the racetrack and a house.
The property is being sold by Lee Hostetter Real East Broker and Auctioneer. Hostetter did not return a call, and the owners of the track couldn't be reached.
Promoter Corey Ward said the nationals will be held June 22-24.
Last year was the first year the track held the event, which had been held at the Canfield Fairgrounds before that.
Ward said the program this year will be affiliated with Y-103 radio, and there will be better handling of traffic that clogged roads last year.
The track has been for sale for many years. Ward said the owners are only trying to recoup their investment. Ward said the owners had pledged to operate the facility for five years but had kept running it for nine years.
