Rock's woes are plenty in defeat

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Slippery Rock shot 39.6 percent from the field and committed 18 turnovers, a deadly combination against ranked California (Pa.)
The Vulcans (16-3, 5-0) took advantage, beating The Rock 79-56 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West game Monday night.
James Petty scored 14 points for California, while Theron Colao added 13 and Ron Banks had 12.
Jamar Scales scored 13 points to lead Slippery Rock (4-16, 1-4), while Joseph Vines added 11 and Glenn Reepmeyer had 10.
Women
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls) scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds for Westminster in a 68-61 win over Pitt-Greensburg.
Gina Brunetti (Mooney) added 13 points for Westminster (15-4), which led 36-31 at halftime. Emilee Ackerman and Rachel Martinko scored 12 apiece.
Nicole Reiser scored 19 points and dished out four assists for Greensburg (10-9). Kelsey Wilcox added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Tiffany Menhorn scored 14 points.
Frostburg State 83, Bethany 74
FROSTBURG, Md. -- Krystine Hargrove poured in 26 points as Frostburg State finished the game with a 12-3 run.
Amanda LaPorta added 15 points for Frostburg State (11-8), which led 44-29 at halftime and by as many as 17 points in the second half, before Bethany rallied.
Tracie George and Brittney James added 13 and 12 points, respectively. James also had 11 rebounds.
Bethany (6-13) was led by Courtney Irwin and Lisa Mitchell with 15 points apiece. Renee Brandenburg added 10 points. Irwin also had 11 rebounds.
California (Pa.) 60,Slippery Rock 58
CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Lindsay Johnson (New Middletown) scored 16 points to lead California in a PSAC West game.
Keris Timol added 14 points for the Vulcans (13-6, 3-2), who led 28-25 at halftime and won despite shooting 31.9 percent (23-of-72) from the field.
Brooque Williams finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. April Smith and Kim Nowakowski both had 11 rebounds for California.
Jessica Schake and Dana Stewart scored 10 points each for The Rock (8-11, 2-3). Nikki Presto added five assists and nine rebounds.
