Fire destroys Howland home


HOWLAND — Damage was estimated at $70,000 in a fire that destroyed a one-story house at 2832 Bolin Ave. S.E.

Howland firefighters were called around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, and the first unit to arrive reported heavy smoke and flames showing from the house. A crew that entered the house to fight the blaze reported extensive fire inside.

Firefighters didn’t release the name of the occupant but said no one was home at the time of the fire. They did say that the occupant is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No firefighters were injured and the cause of the blaze is under investigation. Howland was assisted by crews from Weathersfield, Warren Township, the Vienna Air Reserve Station and Bazetta.
