Hole being prepared
for charity fundraiser
Jeff Orth, the assistant park director at Mosquito Lake State Park, cuts a hole in the inch-thick ice in preparation for today's Polar Bear Plunge. About 100 people are expected to raise money then jump into the icy water to benefit Special Olympics. Orth said event registration opens at 11 a.m and the plunge will be at 1:30 p.m. Six such events are being held statewide this year to support more than 21,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Orth was cutting through the ice Friday afternoon.
