Koch hits jumper in final second to help W & amp;J topple Westminster



Bethany improved to 6-1 in the PAC with a win over Thiel.
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Jon Koch hit a fadeaway 17-foot jump shot with 0.7 seconds remaining, giving Washington & amp; Jefferson an 89-87 victory over Westminster Saturday.
Koch and Brandon Studer each scored 25 points for the Presidents (7-12, 4-3 Presidents' Athletic Conference), who led 43-38 at halftime. Wahab Owolabi added 22 points and 17 rebounds for W & amp;J, which shot 55.6 percent from the field (35-of-63) to offset 18 turnovers.
Westminster (12-7, 5-2) was led by Steve Bielich with 22 points and nine rebounds. Greg Rosatelli added 17 points and six assists, while Craig Hannon (Union) and Nick Adams finished with 14 points apiece.
Bethany 75, Thiel 72
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Joe Herrmann had 31 points and 15 rebounds for Thiel, but the Bison held off a late Tomcats rally for their 14th win.
Joe Testa had 20 points for Bethany (14-5, 6-1 PAC) on 8-of-12 shooting, while James Wallace and Marc Palermo (Ursuline) added 13 points each. Palermo also had four assists, and Brody Jackson scored 10 points.
Brandon Mirizio had 18 points and Cory Chafee scored 11 for Thiel (5-13, 2-5), which trailed 69-57 with 3:54 remaining. The Tomcats got as close as five points in the final minute, and Herrmann's 3-pointer at the buzzer made the final score closer.
Herrmann also had six assists.
Heidelberg 75, Mount Union 62
TIFFIN -- Ron Higgins had 24 points and 14 rebounds for Heidelberg, which bolted from a one-point lead at halftime.
The 'Berg led 27-26 at the intermission, then made half of their 28 shots in the second half, outscoring Mount Union 46-38.
Andrew Lemmon had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Heidelberg (12-7, 8-4 Ohio Athletic Conference), while Chad Szalay added 12 and Shawn Shriver 10.
Stu Anglum led Mount Union (8-11, 3-9) with 19 points and seven rebounds. Chris Switzer scored 13 points for the Purple Raiders.
Geneva 80, Franciscan 71
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Bryan Hill scored 16 points and Jermaine Ferguson added 14 for Geneva (10-12), which led by as many as 21 points in the first half.
Greg McDivitt and Kyle McDermott added 11 points apiece for the Golden Tornadoes, whose big lead dwindled to five at one point in the second half. Ferguson also had six assists and McDermott had six rebounds.
Franciscan (3-15) was led by Nathan Stanton, with 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Matt Glassman added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Dan Johnson finished with 14 points and six rebounds and Kevin Allen with 11 points and four assists.
Walsh 77, Cedarville 70
NORTH CANTON -- Walsh won its 15th straight game as Adam Lesch scored 25 points.
The Cavaliers (20-3, 11 AMC South) also scored 12 points from Corey Jones and 11 points and five assists from Jason Hicks.
Shippensburg 61, Slippery Rock 59
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Glenn Reepmeyer had 15 points and 11 rebounds for The Rock (4-15, 1-3 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West), which lost its fifth straight game.
Kenny Smith led Slippery Rock with 17 points. The Rock trailed 57-46 with just over six minutes remaining, but rallied to tie the score before the Red Raiders scored the winning basket.
Slippery Rock has lost four games this season by two points.
Chuck Davis had 24 points and six rebounds for Shippensburg (12-11, 3-2), while Todd Johnson added 10 points.
Ohio Wesleyan 92, Hiram 86
HIRAM -- Mike Staley led Hiram with 23 points and eight assists, but the Terriers gave up an 8-0 run late in the game that sealed their fate in a North Coast Athletic Conference game.
Mike McDevitt (Lisbon) added 21 points and eight rebounds for Hiram (6-13, 5-5 NCAC), which led 65-62 with 7:58 remaining, before the Bishops' 8-0 run. Chuck Williams (Lakeview) had 14 points and made 4-of-6 3-pointers for the Terriers, and Ian Pfouts scored 10 points.
Ohio Wesleyan (13-6, 7-3) was led by Ted Uritus with 20 points and Ben Chojnacki with 18. Matt Shirer added 17 points, Jesse Jean scored 14 and Dustin Rudegair had 10. Jean also had 12 rebounds.
Allegheny 70, Kenyon 65
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Bill Babe's 3-pointer with 37 seconds remaining gave Allegheny a 68-65 lead.
George Raftis and Ryan Hollihan scored 12 points each for the Gators (8-10, 4-6 NCAC), while Ben Torsney added 11.
Korey Haddox paced Kenyon (7-12, 3-7) with 15 points, while Jim Arce added 12. Dave Knapke and David Jolson scored 10 apiece.
