CHANEY
Unsuccessful candidatefor coaching job replies
Fanfare:
I would like to publicly and personally thank my family, friends, players, Chaney family, Gridiron Club (Ray Jaminet) and the entire West Side for their support. Since 1983, I have had the privilege and honor of being part of the Chaney football program as a player and coach with Ron Berdis. Over that time, I have learned about tradition, loyalty, integrity and character of what being from Chaney is all about. I wanted to continue the Chaney Tradition and core beliefs of: God, family, academics and program, but was not given the opportunity to do so for various reasons. I don't fully understand those reasons from downtown or the Board, but I respect their decision.
I have also had the opportunity to work with some of the Valley's finest coaches, many of which are current head coaches or co-ordinators at Valley schools today. Coach Berdis' influence on the many lives of players and coaches over that span has made the Chaney football program what it is today. He is the winningest coach in the school's history and is the only coach to take Chaney football to the state playoffs, including a trip to the state championship in 1997. Unfortunately, he was not afforded the opportunity to be part of the process in hiring the new coach at Chaney. I feel that his years of service to the district, Chaney in particular, would have at least warranted his input in the decision-making process. I don't know whose agenda it was to exclude him from the process but many on the West Side and myself thought this whole situation could have been handled more professionally from the Youngstown City Schools.
Finally, I would like to wish Coach Protopapa success in the coming years at Chaney and good luck.

WOODROW WILSON
Redmen alumni urged toattend last game in gym
Fanfare:
To all Redmen fans, please help my friend and fellow classmate coach Mark Cherol and come out to the last basketball game ever at the Wilson High School gym on Friday, February 16.
My good friend Bob Roth wore a shirt of the South High Warriors. His motto "Once a Warrior, always a Warrior." All Redmen fans have that same creed "Once a Redmen, always a Redmen."
Soon the walls of Woodrow Wilson will be tumbling down via the wrecking ball and Wilson will cease to exist.
Let us all file into our gym on February 16 not only to say "remember that time" but to root for the Redmen to beat our arch-rival, the Chaney Cowboys.
The fans and Rayen alumni did it up right at their final football game at Rayen Stadium. Lets fill our gym like the good old days and bring home a victory for coach Cherol.
