Area FDs get Homeland Security grants

One Columbiana County and two Mahoning County fire departments are among those in Ohio that have received a total of $866,030 from the Department of Homeland Security:

• Milton Township (Mahoning), $18,867.

• Perry Township (Columbiana), $59,898.

• Springfield Township, $23,056 (Mahoning).

The money , which is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program, can be used for equipment, emergency vehicles, training and other resources, according to U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio.
