Mooney stays unbeaten in SVC



The Cardinals defeated Harding; Hubbard and Liberty won TAC games.
WARREN -- Sara Pelini and Katie Hughes combined for 29 points as the Mooney High girls basketball team posted a 58-39 victory over Warren Harding Thursday in a Steel Valley Conference game in the Raiders' gymnasium.
The Cardinals (11-3, 4-0), who share first place in the SVC standings with Rayen, rushed out to a 16-5 lead in the first quarter and they were ahead 31-14 at intermission.
Pelini sparked the Cardinals with 19 points and Hughes chipped in with 10.
The Raiders (4-11, 0-3) were led by Kamela Bender with 11 points, while Aundrea Baldridge and Jasmine Kirkland added 10 apiece.
Warren JFK 54, Wilson 42
YOUNGSTOWN -- Samantha Brys had 14 points and 16 rebounds while teammate Angela Mills added 13 points and 11 rebounds for JFK, which had a 31-12 halftime lead.
Marcinde North scored 19 points to lead Wilson.
Hubbard 38, Champion 37
HUBBARD -- The Golden Flashes, behind 25-23 heading into the fourth quarter of the Trumbull Athletic Conference game, couldn't quite catch up even though they outscored the Eagles 14-13 in the final period.
Meggie Bogdan sparked the Eagles with 14 points. Ashley Haas led the Golden Flashes with 16.
Liberty 53, Girard 17
GIRARD -- Michelle Dykes scored 23 points to lead Liberty, which took control with a 15-3 first-quarter advantage.
Brittany Armour added eight point for the Leopards, while SaMari Dawson and Brianna Pettway had seven.
Cynthia Walker and Chelsea Guerrieri each had five points for Girard.
Lakeview 57, Newton Falls 34
NEWTON FALLS -- Chelsea Butler poured in 24 points while Jen Baker added 14 -- both hitting three 3-point goals -- to lead Lakeview.
Emily Montgomery tallied 11 points and Kelsey McGregor 10 to spark Newton Falls.
Southington 40, Lordstown 33
SOUTHINGTON -- Heather Wolfe scored 17 points to lead Southington, which had a 32-15 lead after three quarters.
Karly Gibbs had 10 rebounds and three assists for Lordstown (3-9), while Lindsey Harrison had 12 points and Brianna Blodgett had 11 points and three assists.
