Lordstown woman dies in Niles crash

NILES — A Lordstown woman was killed and two others injured in a one-car crash on Robbins Avenue Monday night.

Carol Giovannone, 82, of Ina Drive, was a back-seat passenger in a car driven by Wanda Pandone, 71, of Morris Place, that crashed into a utility pole.

Pandone remains in fair condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. A front-seat passenger, Libertine Pandone, 96, of East State Street, is in critical condition in St. Elizabeth’s.

Traffic Investigator John Marhulik said Pandone was driving her car eastbound on Robbins shortly after 6:30 p.m. The three were on their way to church.

Marhulik said the car went off the right side of Robbins near Bentley Avenue and struck a utility pole.

If ruled a traffic fatality by the Trumbull County Coroner’s office, it would be the second traffic death in the city this week.

Dennis Toth, 27, of Poplar Avenue, Girard, died Sunday when the car he was driving struck two trees and a mailbox on Salt Springs Road.

The coroner’s office said that Toth died of multiple blunt trauma.
