$1.05 million gift for YSU scholarships

YOUNGSTOWN — A $1.05 million trust established in the names of Robert G. and S. Ann Berich Maigetter will provide scholarships for Youngstown State University students in geography, economics, philosophy and political science. The scholarship is part of YSU’s Centennial Capital Campaign.

Mrs. Maigetter, who was 86 when she died in February 2006, taught part time in YSU’s geography department in the 1970s and early 1980s. She wrote an article on Youngstown for the 1960 edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica. Mr. Maigetter was part-owner of Valley Cut Flower Co and retired in 1979 as credit manager for Dorrance Supply Co. He died in May 1995 at 76. The trust is managed by Sky Trust in Youngstown.

The scholarships will be awarded to students who have attained third-year status and will rotate annually to students studying geography, economics, philosophy, and political science. The first scholarships will go to the geography department this fall.
