AUSTINTOWN -- Township police continue to investigate the Saturday morning traffic accident that took the life of 18-year-old Tricia Lenio of Canfield. According to Police Chief Robert Gavalier, Lenio was traveling east on Kirk Road early Saturday when her vehicle went off the right side of the road, hit a large rock, then struck a utility pole. Gavalier said Lenio died at the scene. Lenio was a senior at South Range High School, planning to attend Youngstown State University and major in education.
Baby listed as 'critical'
YOUNGSTOWN -- The condition of Kha-Niyah Williams, the 7-month-old baby found unresponsive and not breathing after being left unattended in a bathtub, moved from serious to critical Sunday. Youngstown police said there was no new information in the case. According to police, the baby's mother, Shareitta Buffington, 20, said she put the baby and a 2-year-old in the bathtub Friday and left to find some soap. When she returned, the infant was face down in the water. Others in the house started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The infant was taken to Beeghly Medical Center, then flown to Akron Children's Hospital.
Training to help disabled
YOUNGSTOWN -- Volunteer Services Agency will host a training session for professionals on volunteer service for people with disabilities from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Feb. 5, in Auditorium C at the Forum Health Medical Education Building, 500 Gypsy Lane. Their target audience is people in the professions of volunteer administration, mental health profession, school profession, social work, nursing, health profession and nonprofit and faith-based organizations. Cost is 25 and includes lunch and contact hours, which will be available to licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, licensed professional counselors and social workers. Free computer lab
LIBERTY -- The Liberty schools will again have a free adult computer lab night program for residents interested in learning more about using their computers. There will be instruction in Internet access, word processing, Excel spreadsheet and database and a publishing program. There will be formal instruction and individual assistance. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays for six weeks in the computer lab at W.S. Guy School, 4115 Shady Road beginning Jan. 25 and ending March 8. There will be no class Feb. 15. Only 26 spaces are available, and registrations are now being accepted by calling Tony Daniels, Liberty schools technology coordinator, at (330) 759-7658. Registration closes Jan. 24. Those under 18 who wish to enroll must be accompanied by a parent when attending the sessions.
Landfill opposition
GIRARD -- Girard United Against Ruinous Dumping will hold a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 in the old Girard City Hall Council Chambers. The topic of discussion will be the status of Total Waste Logistics' reapplication for the proposed construction and demolition debris landfill on the north side of Girard.
