Hitt leads Hubbard to 44-39 win



Champion rolled past Girard 78-45 in another TAC contest.
HUBBARD -- Corey Hitt made seven baskets for 14 points on Friday to lead the Hubbard High basketball team to a 44-39 victory over Newton Falls.
Frank Rasile's 11 points included three 3-pointers for the Eagles.
For the Tigers, Matt Dillon scored 14 points and Marcus Fowler had 10.
Champion 78, Girard 45
GIRARD -- The Golden Flashes used a 31-9 surge in the second quarter for a 51-21 lead at intermission.
Tyler Kish, Katrell Jones and Kenny BonVergen scored 16, 14 and 13 points for the Golden Flashes.
Robert Guerrieri led the Indians (2-9, 1-4 TAC) with 17 points, with four of his baskets being from 3-point range. Andrew Schenker added nine points.
Lutheran East 75,Youngstown Christian 55
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ed Gonda had 17 points, Dave Colbert 14 and Toba Olarewaju 12 for Youngstown, but the Eagles were helpless when Lutheran East got hot from the field in the second half.
Youngstown, down by eight at halftime, stayed with striking distance until Lutheran East put space between the teams.
That was late in the third period, when Colbert incurred his third foul and the visitors started launching jumpers, both from 3-point range and closer.
In Youngstown' season opener, the Eagles lost to Lutheran East by 25 points.
Colbert, a junior, also had seven rebounds. Olarewaju and Gonda are also juniors.
Paul McQueen had 17 points for the visitors.
Pymatuning Valley 62, Lordstown 47
LORDSTOWN -- Senior Josh Lackey had 16 points for Lordstown, but the Red Devils got off to a slow start and couldn't keep pace in the Northeast Athletic Conference game.
Jake Lautanen had 17 points for Pymatuning Valley, which led at halftime, 30-13.
West Branch 49, Minerva 36
BELOIT -- The Warriors (7-3) pulled away from the Lions in the third quarter with a 13-6 spurt.
Jake Woods scored 15 points to pace the Warriors Vic Pappas added 12 and had four assists and Kyle Rockwell grabbed 15 rebounds.
Kennedy Catholic 80,Jamestown 15
HERMITAGE -- The Eagles (9-4) put the game out of reach 48-11 by intermission.
Marsell Holden and Lee Shimshock led the Kennedy Catholic balanced scoring attack each with 11 points. Phil Kaikis added 10.
