Dog warden says coyotes are increasing

NORWALK, Ohio (AP) -- The coyote population is growing in Huron County and there have been reports of attacks on sheep, said the county dog warden.
Dog warden Melvin Eaton said he can't estimate how many coyotes are in the area, but he thinks they are widespread.
Two years ago, a farm near a wildlife area lost quite a few sheep, he said. The farmer has added donkeys to the field and has not had any problems since, Eaton said.
Other residents have reported problems with coyotes, he said.
County Commissioner Gary Bauer said he believes coyotes are the reason why woodchucks are disappearing from a Christmas tree farm.
Coyotes have been in Huron and Erie counties -- about halfway between Cleveland and Toledo -- for about 10 years, said Mike Gastier, a natural resources agent with Ohio State University Extension.
