5 people arrested in apartment break-ins

YOUNGSTOWN -- City police arrested five people Friday after the manager of Westlake Terrace Apartments on 940 Martin Luther King Boulevard said several people were breaking into vacant apartments.
At 10:20 a.m., police found three adults and one child in apartment No. 47. Police reports say officers also found five grams of suspected heroin, digital scales and 470 in cash.
Police charged Saron R. Tapscott, 20; Lamar J. Armstrong, 20; and Brittany Thomas, 18, all of Youngstown; with breaking and entering. Tapscott also was charged with drug possession after she said the suspected heroin was hers, police said.
Thomas' 1-month-old daughter was put in the custody of her relatives.
Earlier in the day, police charged two men with breaking and entering. The men said they were "just hanging out" in the apartments.
Vernon S. Johnson, 47, who is homeless, was found in apartment No. 117, and Donnie Roland, 50, of Youngstown, was in apartment No. 31.
