Shots fired at Vindicator truck

YOUNGSTOWN —   The raised design of a Vindicator truck dashboard took a bullet aimed   at the chest of a delivery driver around 2 a.m. today.

The 59-year-old driver, who had a trainee in the truck, told police that he was dropping off a bundle of newspapers at   Earle and Rosedale avenues — near the Youngstown Playhouse on the South Side — when he noticed two men at the dead end of Earle waving their arms and shouting to get his attention. The driver ignored them and continued to unload his papers until the trainee shouted a warning that the men were rushing up behind him.

The driver hurried back to the big orange Vindicator truck, jumped in and began to pull away.

At this point, one of the young men who rushed the truck positioned himself in front of it, pointed his gun at the driver and fired.

One round pierced the windshield and embedded in the dashboard. A second round struck the radiator. The suspects then ran toward back yards in the 2700 block of Rosedale and disappeared into the night. The two people in the truck were not injured.
