Girl shot at home dances in program

YOUNGSTOWN — If you’re looking for inspiration, look no further than young Laquasha Mitchell.

The 11-year-old Southside Upper Elementary School girl, wounded in an apparent drive-by shooting at her home on West Ravenwood Avenue on Saturday that left her walking with a limp, returned to school today to help lead the school chorus in a Black History Month celebration in the school gym.

She also participated in a tribal dance with the SUE Dance Co. as part of the program.

Laquasha, who is shy around strangers and speaks in a soft, barely audible voice, said she was determined that her injury wouldn’t prevent her from taking part in the day’s celebration.
