Former teacher's sex charges dropped

YOUNGSTOWN — Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has granted the prosecution’s request for dismissal of six counts of sexual battery against a former Austintown Fitch High School teacher.

Judge Sweeney today granted a motion by county Prosecutor Paul J. Gains that the indictment against Gerald E. Reedy, 57, of Alverne Drive, Poland, be dismissed because the alleged victim won’t testify in a trial.

Reedy was charged with having sexual contact with the girl while she was a 16- and 17-year-old student during 2005. Reedy retired in March 2006 after 33 years with the school district.
