Company to be hired to build East Side pump station

YOUNGSTOWN — The board of control is expected to hire a company Friday to build a sewage pump station on the East Side that will settle a portion of an agreement with federal and state environmental officials regarding sewage overflow problems in the city.

The $374,344 contract with Utility Contracting, a Youngstown company, calls for a new facility on Lansdowne Boulevard to pump sewage. The pump station would be three times the size of a facility currently there, said Carmen S. Conglose Jr., deputy director of the city’s public works department.

The station must be operating by Oct. 12 or the city will face a $1,000-a-day fine for every day after that, Conglose said. There won’t be a problem getting the facility finished by Oct. 12, he said.
