BFI seeks OK to increase its Poland landfill

POLAND — Browning-Ferris Industries wants to increase the amount of solid waste it accepts per day at its township landfill and to expand to extend its life by 40 years.

Mike Heher, landfill general manager, met Wednesday with township trustees and Mahoning County officials to discuss the plans.

Heher said the Carbon Limestone Sanitary Landfill on State Line Road has applied with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for an increase in the solid waste amount from 6,500 tons per day to 11,000 tons per day.
