Youngstown school board OKs pact with AFSCME

YOUNGSTOWN — Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union working for the city schools have taken a wage freeze for the next three years.

The board of education approved a new contract tonight with its three AFSCME bargaining units that is a “savings contract,” said Carolyn Funk, district treasurer.

There are no wage increases in the agreement except for a handful of employees who are still on a salary step schedule and have not yet reached the top of the pay scale, she said.
