Mahoning elections board certifies candidates, issues

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Board of Elections certified the petitions of all issues and candidates — even a Republican candidate who voted in last year’s Democratic primary — for the May 8 primary.

There is no problem permitting Adam L. Rutushin of Youngstown to run in the Republican primary even though he’s a registered Democrat, Thomas McCabe, the county’s election board director, told the board Tuesday.

Also at today’s meeting, McCabe said the board plans to reduce the number of precincts in the primary election to save money.

Each reduced precinct saves the county about $500, he said.
