Killer's confession brings back bad memories

Old memories and raw emotions are bubbling to the surface with a serial killer’s confession.

Edward A. Surratt’s prison interview in Florida has put to rest decades-old murders in Beaver Township and elsewhere. The honesty of the 65-year-old prison lifer — if it can be believed — is satisfactory for some, unsettling for others.

“It was my father’s birthday the day it happened,” said 72-year-old Nettie (Davis) Seese of Washingtonville, crying. “It’s so personal, it’s bringing back old memories.”

Her parents, John and Mary Davis of Sharrott Road, North Lima were shot to death at their home Nov. 10, 1977. Their bodies were doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire. John, 63, and Mary, 61, had been the apparent victims of a burglary.
