CIC hires firms for pending downtown tech center

YOUNGSTOWN — A downtown redevelopment agency hired two firms to handle work related to overseeing the construction of a proposed technology center that hasn’t even entered the design phase.

The Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp. board agreed today to hire Brenda L. Williams of Youngstown for up to $44,640 to oversee the construction and design of the Taft Technology Center on its behalf.

The board also hired the Youngstown/Mahoning Community Action Partnership, also of Youngstown, for $15,070, to monitor contractors and subcontractors building the center to make sure they follow laws dealing with prevailing wages, Equal Employment Opportunity, and minority- and women-owned businesses for the project.
