AUSTINTOWN | Trustee meeting

The township trustees handled these matters at their meeting Monday night:
Stream bank setbacks: Trustees began the process of amending the township's zoning ordinance to include a provision for keeping development off stream banks. Riparian setbacks keep stream banks natural and prevent flooding problems. Boardman has them, and Canfield Township is considering enacting the regulations, which are recommended but not mandated by the state. Trustees voted to begin the process. Two public hearings will be set with the county planning commission and the township zoning commission in March, said zoning inspector Mike Kurilla. The trustees will vote on adopting the amendment in April.
Mailboxes: The township began repairing and replacing mailboxes that its snowplows knocked down in the recent snowstorm. Administrator Mike Dockry said the work began Friday. Dockry said replacements will be standard mailboxes, no matter what people had up before.
