NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin hit four home runs and scored eight runs in the first three innings in a 12-1 victory over Youngstown State Saturday.
Noel Trevino went 3-for-5 with a grand slam while Steven Hill had three hits and three RBIs for SFA (5-8).
Josh Page, Erich Diedrich and John Koehnlein had two hits apiece for YSU (0-2) while Rob Sullivan and Bryan Hamrick each posted their first career hits.
SFA starter Jared Schrom allowed one run on six hits in five innings to pick up his first win.
YSU's Chuck Schiffhauer allowed nine runs on 10 hits in five innings.
YSU scored on Page's single in the fifth inning that scored Hamrick.
The teams play in the series finale today at 2 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A special edition of the Penguin Playbook Radio Show will be carried live on WKBN-AM (570) Monday night at the Youngstown Sports Grille.
The hour-long show will start at 7 p.m. and feature basketball coaches Jerry Slocum and Tisha Hill.

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Because of the late start of Saturday's SteelHounds game in Bossier-Shreveport, La., a story about the game will appear in Monday's edition.
Hanson Bros.at Friday game
YOUNGSTOWN -- The "Hanson Brothers" from the film "Slap Shot" will appear at the Youngstown SteelHounds game Friday against the Memphis RiverKings. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Chevrolet Centre.
The Hanson Brothers are really Jeff and Steve Carlson and Dave Hanson. All three played professional hockey. Their act consists of several on-ice activities, dropping the first puck and signing autographs.

Curbstone Coaches
BOARDMAN -- Carl Kokor, a Niles native who was a member of the Marshall University football coaching staff in 1970, will speak at the Curbstone Coaches noon luncheon Monday.
At the affair at the Blue Wolf (formerly Lockwood House), Kokor will describe the effects of the airplane crash that killed 75 Thundering Herd team members and staff who were aboard that season.
Koker, who was not on the plane, will also address the movie, "We Are Marshall."
Tressel at luncheon
CANTON -- Ohio State coach Jim Tressel will speak to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club Monday.
The program begins at 11 a.m. with lunch and Tressel's address at 12:10 p.m.
Cost is 10 for members and 20 for non-member guests of members.
Golf Expo
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Chevrolet Centre will hold the Mahoning Valley Golf Expo March 10-11.
Representatives from manufacturers like Nike, Titlists, Ping, Calloway, and Taylor Made will have clubs and equipment available to try out.
There will be virtual reality simulators, indoor driving range and a putting green in which contestants can win 10,000 in a longest putt contest.
Local professionals will answer questions and Tom Roscus, Pinnacle Long Drive Champion, will be a special guest.
Admission will be 10.
St. Patrick's run
WARREN -- The O'Donold's-Rose and Thistle St. Patrick's Day 5-kilometer Run will be held March 10 at 1 p.m. on a course beginning from O'Donold's Irish Pub, 2774 Youngstown Road.
Also on tap will be a 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk that will start at 1:30 p.m,
Both events will follow courses that will begin on Central Parkway across from O'Donold's, and loop through the residential neighborhoods on Warren's East Side.

MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer Raceway Park's 56th season opens March 31 with the "Chiller Thriller," an event featuring the ULMS Super Late Models. E-mods and open stocks will also run.
Racing begins at 7 p.m.
Indoor track/field
ALLIANCE -- Lordstown High's Ryan Pal won the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) at the Mount Union indoor track and field meet Friday.
Pal was also seventh in the 55-meter high hurdles in a school-record time of 8.23 seconds.
Also for Lordstown, Tykie Theofilos was seventh in the 400 (55.5) and Kayla Elks was fifth in the long jump (15-11).
Over 50 schools competed in the meet.
Mang, Bertolinilead Mercyhurst
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- John Mang (Austintown Fitch) pitched 62/3 innings and Dan Bertolini (Poland) scored the winning run as the Mercyhurst College baseball team defeated Millersville 7-6 in 10 innings Saturday.
Mang allowed two earned runs but didn't get a decision.
Bertolini had four hits.
