Registration is due by March 9 for national ACT test on April 14

YOUNGSTOWN -- College-bound high school students should register by March 9 for the next national ACT test date April 14.
Those who miss the deadline and still want to take the test on that date can do a late registration for an additional fee. The late registration deadline is March 23.
Students can register at www.actstudent.org or secure registration material from their high school guidance counselors.
The ACT Web site includes sample tests and online preparation materials.
The ACT is accepted by all colleges and universities that use admissions tests in their application process. It's an academic achievement test covering English, reading, mathematics and science.
Students can choose to take an optional writing test, although most colleges don't require a writing score.
The ACT costs 29. If the writing test is included, the cost increases to 43. The late registration fee is 19.
Colleges use ACT scores to help determine if a student is ready for college-level coursework. Those with low ACT scores are likely to require remedial courses to get ready for college work, so many high school juniors take the test to help pinpoint any academic weaknesses they need to address before re-taking the test as a senior.
Students can determine which scores they want to send to the colleges of their choice.
