YOUNGSTOWN -- Students at Cardinal Mooney High School are selling tickets until April 5 for a raffle that will give the winner the option of accepting a Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cobalt LS or a cash prize of 10,000.
Ticket sales are being promoted on the school's Web site, www.cardinalmooney.com, where basic information about the raffle and how to purchase tickets can be found.
Individuals interested in purchasing tickets can complete a form found on the Web site and e-mail it back to the school. Tickets will also be available by calling the school office at (330) 788-5113.
Comfort, crumpetsoffered at Tuff Times Tea
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP -- Pleasant Valley Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road, off Tibbets-Wick Road, will hold a Tuff Times Tea from noon to 2 p.m. March 3 at the church.
The seasonal celebration is planned for those going through a tough time, such as battling cancer, divorce, loneliness or depression. The event will offer companionship, courage and crumpets. There will also be special gifts and entertainment.
There is no cost for admission, but reservations are to be made by Wednesday with Cindy Seifert at (330) 539-4611.
Commemorative eventset by federation
YOUNGSTOWN -- American-Hungarian Federation of Churches and Societies of Youngstown will sponsor a public commemoration of the 1848 War of Independence at 2:30 p.m. March 18 at the Youngstown American Hungarian Club, 2219 Donald Ave.
The event will include a program by guest speakers in both Hungarian and English languages, who will give presentations on the Hungarian background, cultural events and changes taking place in Hungary.
Entertainment will be by the Youngstown Hungarian Dance Group, local musicians, the recitation of poems and a sing-along. Refreshments will be served.
Children's Museumnames officers
YOUNGSTOWN -- The board of trustees of the Children's Museum of the Valley has named a slate of officers who will serve during 2007-2008.
The officers are Robert Wagmiller, retired CPA, president; Lynee Aiad-Toss, community volunteer, vice president; Theodore M. Schmidt, senior vice president and regional manager with corporate banking, National City Bank, treasurer; and Stephanie Olson, community volunteer, secretary.
Rounding out the board are: Susan Berny, community volunteer; Lois Clark, director of MYCAP Headstart; Jennifer Gasser, manager of Gasser Associates Inc.; Dr. Philip Ginnetti, dean at Youngstown State University College of Education; Jack Grdic, sales manager with WFMJ-WBCB television; Ronald Fanior, president of Ronald Cornell Faniro, architects; Dr. Cynthia Hirtzel, executive director at Youngstown State University center for transportation and materials engineering; Maggie McCloud, local textile artist; Pamela Priddy, president of Professional Benefits Administrators Inc.; Kelley Schuler, mental health specialist with Turning Point Counseling Services; and Dominique Stoeber, corporate executive and vice president of retail banking, First Place Bank.
