Couple killed in fire maybe fed by oxygen
LONDON, Ohio (AP) -- A house fire Friday that killed a couple may have spread quickly because of the oxygen one of the victims used, the sheriff said.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and the house engulfed in flames when they responded to a call Terrie Coil, 55, had placed around 2:30 a.m., Madison County Sheriff James Sabin said. They found her body and that of her husband, Garry, 59, inside their one-story brick ranch home near London, about 25 miles west of Columbus.
Garry Coil used an oxygen machine and had health problems including an amputated foot and limited use of his legs, Sabin said.
A 31-year-old son of the Coils got out safely and ran to a neighbor's house for help.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, Sabin said, and there was no evidence of foul play.
