Boardman's Touvelle sets record as Spartans roll past W. Harding



West Branch rallied to beat Norton in a Div. II sectional final.
ALLIANCE -- Boardman High freshman Monica Touvelle made nine 3-pointers to break a school record, finishing with a career-high 29 points, as the Spartans defeated Warren Harding 80-49 in a Division I sectional final at Alliance High School Saturday.
Touvelle, who made 9-of-23 from behind the arc, broke the previous mark of eight set by Colleen Mallis.
Freshman Darryce Moore added 20 points and 18 rebounds for the second-seeded Spartans (19-3), who will meet Canton McKinley in a district semifinal game Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Top-seeded North Canton Hoover will play Canfield at 6 p.m. in the other semifinal.
Junior Courtney Schiffauer had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Boardman held a 49-20 halftime lead and was never threatened. Staci Wahlman had six assists and Katie Fiffick added five.
Jahmarra Warfield scored 14 points and Kamela Bender had 10 for the Raiders (7-14).
West Branch 50, Norton 47
MASSILLON -- The Warriors (14-8), behind 24-19 at the intermission, outscored Norton 16-9 in the third quarter to take a 35-33 lead in the Div. II sectional tournament contest.
Amanda Stiffler paced the Warriors 15 points and Cassi Snoddy added 13. Shelly Greenawalt and Michelle Sosnick each grabbed six rebounds.
Crestview 66, Girard 43
HANOVERTON -- Crestview held a 38-31 lead at halftime and the Indians (3-18) couldn't recover in the Div. III sectional at United High School.
Elyse Mongillo sparked the Rebels with 21 points. Chelsea Bowker added 18 and she had 12 rebounds, four assists and six steals.
Cynthia Walker led the Indians with 15 points and she grabbed 12 rebounds. Ashley Palmer added 13 points.
Rootstown 50, Warren JFK 36
HANOVERTON -- The Eagles kept it close for three quarters, but Rootstown pulled away in the final eight minutes for Div. III victory.
Samantha Brys paced the Eagles with 14 points. Ashley Christani and Lauren Shaw led Rootstown with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Strasburg 57, Wellsville 29
CLAYMONT -- In Wellsville's Div. IV sectional final tournament loss, Jasmine Richardson set a school record with 1,492 career points, bettering the old standard of 1,489.
Richardson paced the Tigers (13-9) with 18 points. She scored six points in the first quarter as Wellsville battled Strasburg to a 8-8 tie.
Strasburg, over the next two periods, built a 40-24 lead.
Richards grabbed nine rebounds and had two steals. P.J. Williams had four rebounds and four steals.
Sharon 63, Harbor Creek 38
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- A 17-4 surge in the second quarter was all the Tigers (21-4) needed in the Class AAA first round playoff game as they built a 29-17 lead at Slippery Rock University.
Brittany Csatlos sparked the Tigers with 18 points and she grabbed 10 rebounds, had five assists and five steals.
Sharon will play General McLane, which topped Franklin 54-39, Wednesday.
Boys
NEWTON FALLS -- A big fourth quarter carried Newton Falls to a 47-38 win over Warren JFK in a regular season game.
The Tigers scored 18 points in the last eight minutes after trailing 31-29 after three quarters.
Matt Dillon, who rebounded 12 times, scored five of his 17 points in the fourth quarter for the Tigers.
J.J. Townsend scored 17 points and hit five 3-pointers for the Eagles who got scoring from just four players.
Ursuline 61, Hubbard 37
YOUNGSTOWN -- D'Aundray Brown scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Ryan Burton added 10 points for the Irish (16-4), who put 11 players into the scoring column.
Corey Hitt scored 16 points for Hubbard (13-7).
