McDonald expects sidewalk answer soon

McDONALD — Village officials could know in a few days whether they will receive an application for funds that would go toward adding sidewalks on portions of four streets.

Councilman Richard Harvey explained at Wednesday's council meeting that officials sent a letter of interest last month to the Ohio Department of Transportation to apply for funding from a federal Safe Routes to School program.

The money, to be administered through ODOT, would be used to build sidewalks on parts of Iowa and McDonald avenues as well as sections of Second and Sixth streets, Harvey noted.

The sidewalks would make it safer for pupils who walk to McDonald High School or Roosevelt Elementary School, Harvey said. Pupils in grades one through six attend the elementary school; those in seventh through 12th grade go to the high school.
