Campbell stays in MAC hunt



Struthers, Poland and Lowellville posted victories.
HOWLAND -- Ahead 30-16 at intermission, the Campbell High boys basketball team put the game out of reach with a 20-10 surge in the third quarter to beat Howland 63-47 in a Metro Athletic Conference game on Tuesday.
Tommy Hall sparked the Red Devils (14-3, 11-2) with 18 points and he seven rebounds. Jermaine Richardson and Travis Martin chipped in with 12 apiece as the Red Devils remain a game behind Canfield in the MAC race.
Thursday, Canfield plays at Campbell.
Nathan Salter led the Tigers (5-14) with 11 points. Tyler Scott pulled down six rebounds.
Struthers 63, Niles 50
STRUTHERS -- Matt Kukura scored 17 points, making 11 of 13 from the free throw line, and Andy Sepesy also had 17 to lead Struthers (9-10, 5-8). R.J. Ragan added 15 points.
Dan Rosenberger scored 15 points and Vince Melillo added 11 for Niles.
Poland 62, Salem 35
POLAND -- The Bulldogs (16-3, 11-3) held the Quakers (1-19, 1-3) to two points in the first quarter and five in the second in building a commanding 28-7 halftime lead.
Lou Coppola paced Poland with 13 points. Austin Houston and Jordan Strabala led the Quakers with eight points apiece.
Lowellville 76, Youngstown Christian 45
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mario Nero scored 15 of his 19 points in the third quarter as the Rockets outscored the Eagles 24-10 over that stretch to pull away.
Jim Sudon had 15 points and John Wilaj added 11.
For YCS (6-13), David Colbert had 14 points, Ed Gonda had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Toba Olarewaju had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Mathews 61, Jackson-Milton 50
VIENNA -- John Scudier scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half as Mathews outscored the Bluejays 40-24 over that stretch.
Scudier also had 14 rebounds, while Collin Bowser and Tarin Brown each had 10 points for Mathews (3-15).
Nik Kaley had 15 points and 13 rebounds for J-M.
Leetonia 60, Lisbon 49
LISBON -- The Blue Devils (1-17) rushed out to a 15-9 lead in the first quarter, but the Bears (12-6) bounced back to outscore Lisbon 20-2 in the second period and held a 29-17 margin at halftime.
The Bears were sparked by Jon Williams with 14 points, three steals and eight rebounds. Aaron Valentine and Jake McNalley added 10 apiece. Corey Rauschenbach had eight rebounds and five assists, while. Josh Selway also had five assists.
Steve Tsilimos led the Blue Devils with 24 points.
He pulled down eight rebounds and had four steals.
Arlan Bailey added 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Hubbard 68, Champion 62
HUBBARD -- After falling behind 24-15 in the first quarter the Eagles rallied past Champion in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Corey Hitt led the Eagles with 27 points while Marc Kanetsky added 18.
Champion was paced by Katrell Jones with 19 points while Joe Cvengros added 18.
Newton Falls 57, Girard 43
GIRARD -- Matt Dillon and Todd Medallis each scored 16 points to lead Newton Falls (11-9), which outscored Girard 25-11 in the third quarter to take control.
Cameron McCleary added eight points and five assists.
Doug Starr had 16 points and four rebounds, while Andrew Schenker added 10 points for Girard (2-18, 1-13 TAC).
LaBrae 63, Liberty 57
LEAVITTSBURG -- Liberty outscored the Vikings in the second half, 37-31, but came up short in the end.
Labrae's Mike Ryan led all scorers with 22 points, while teammate Eric Hart tacked on 14 for the Vikings, who held a 32-20 halftime advantage.
Isaiah Bell had 18 points, while Jason White and Mychal Doblanski added 12 apiece for the Leopards.
McDonald 77, Bristol 52
McDONALD -- Scott Sentner popped in 22 points, Andy Timko 16 and Brad Hinton 14 for the Blue Devils, who made 31 of 65 goals.
For Bristol, Eric Maraczi scored 17 points and Joe Harkelrode 15.
East Palestine 72, Chaney 53
EAST PALESTINE -- Dan Hanolt collected 21 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Bulldogs (17-2).
Travis Foreman tacked on 20 points while Jake Harvey had 15 more.
For the Cowboys, Evan Bush scored 18 points.
West Branch 61, St. Thomas Aquinas 56
BELOIT -- The Warriors (12-6) built a 38-19 lead by intermission and the Knights weren't able to recover, although they outscored the Warriors 37-26 in the second half.
Kyle Rockwell sparked the Warriors with 22 points.
Vic Pappas added 14 and Willy Graham had 10.
