10,000 in copper stolen from work site

The thieves cut their way through a door and took 1,200 pounds of goods.
WARREN -- Police are suggesting the construction company building the new Warren G. Harding High School hire a security guard.
Thieves took 10,000 worth of new copper fittings and piping sometime over the weekend from inside the building under construction.
An employee of W.G. Tomko Inc. of Finleyville, Pa., reported that the plumbing materials were taken between Friday evening and Monday morning, when the thefts were discovered.
The pieces weighed 1,200 pounds total, according to the report from the Warren Police Department. Half was tubing and the other half, fittings.
The break-in was the fourth time materials from W.G. Tomko have been taken from the site.
"It's guys that know what they're doing," said Patrol Officer Frank Tempesta, who took the latest theft report.
Tempesta suggested W.G. Tomko hire a security guard because the complex is so vast.
He explained that the padlock on the main door can't be cut with bolt cutters, so the thieves cut their way through the door itself.
Lt. Gary Vingle said the doors are locked when workers leave and the site is checked by police during the midnight shift, but they haven't had any luck in catching the burglars.
The school district referred all questions to Construction Manager Bill Schurman, who did not return calls to comment Tuesday.
