Relocated Menagerie opens in Howland

HOWLAND -- The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is to reopen its gift and thrift shop in Howland today.
The Menagerie had been located in the same plaza as Save-A-Lot in Warren for several years but outgrew that location, league President Barbara Busko said.
"It's been really bittersweet," she said. "We had a wonderful landlord and really great neighbors, but the store was too small. We weren't able to expand like we wanted to."
The Menagarie's new location is in the former Books'n'Mags store at 8044 E. Market St. Before that, the building was the location of Bahmer's Pharmacy. Its wares include a mix of donated items, which include appliances and clothing, Busko said.
"All of our items are cleaned and polished before they are put out for sale. We have everything from linens to sporting goods to jewelry. It's like looking at a catalog," she said. "People find things they haven't seen since they were children."
Proceeds from the shop benefit the league's animal shelter and emergency rescue services, Busko said.
The Menagarie has two paid employees, but volunteers are always welcome, Busko said. It is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
