Fordeley to be closed for 3 weeks for repairs

Tuesday, February 20, 2007

CHAMPION -- The final toll on the Fordeley Music and Instrument Repair building from the buildup of snow and ice appears to be a new roof, ceiling, paint and carpeting.
Frank Fordeley, owner of the store on Mahoning Avenue, said he has been advised to expect the renovation on his store to take about three weeks -- assuming that the weather cooperates. That is also the length of time the store is expected to stay closed and lessons for his students to be suspended, he said.
Fordeley noticed some water had started leaking into the store through the roof Wednesday morning after the area's severe snowstorm blew through the area Tuesday and Wednesday. By Wednesday night, the damage was extensive, he said, with water knocking down half of the store's ceiling tiles.
There was about 18 inches of snow on the roof, in addition to ice, he said. The business has been at the current location since 1998, having been in the Champion Plaza before that.
