Road closing for bridge
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- River Road between Jacobson Road and Hillsville Road in the city's Mahoning Township section will be closed beginning Tuesday for purposes related to the Hilltown Bridge Replacement Project. The road will remain closed for the duration of the project. The project is scheduled to be completed and the road and bridge reopened to traffic Sept. 1. Traffic will be detoured using Pa. Routes 441, 4003 and 4006.
Kennedy registration
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Kennedy Catholic High School will have ninth-grade registration for the 2007-08 school year from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the school cafeteria, 2120 Shenango Valley Freeway.
Financial aid, course scheduling and transportation information will be available.
Robotics team is ready
GIRARD -- The Girard High School robotics team will meet its design, build and program deadline for its 2007 robot and will ship it for the first competition Tuesday.
Head adviser Judy Barber said that build adviser Ashraf Hadi and the team have worked almost every day for the past six weeks, including snow days, for up to 12 hours a day to meet the engineering and technology deadline. They took off some Sundays, she added.
They will be competing in Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Toronto in March.
Owl walk at Villa Maria
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- An owl walk is planned from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 3 on the grounds of Villa Maria Community Center.
Bill Whitehouse, naturalist emeritus with Mill Creek MetroParks in Youngstown, will lead the walk by the light of the full moon.

A sidewalk reminder
WARREN -- Residents are being reminded that they are responsible for keeping their sidewalks clear of snow and ice. William D. Franklin, city service-safety director, said city schools will reopen Tuesday and students and other pedestrians need to use the sidewalks. He also asked motorists to used additional caution if children are walking in the street, which is city is trying to avoid.
New elections board
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County President Judge Dominick Motto has appointed a new board of elections.
County officials, all named to the board last week, are James Gagliano, administrator; Frank Piccari, maintenance superintendent; and J.R. Hardester, chief assessor.
The three county commissioners ordinarily serve as the board of elections automatically. They cannot serve on the board this year, however, because they are all seeking re-election. The judge's appointees will serve for the May primary and the November general election.
Meeting rescheduled
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- New Castle Area School Board has rescheduled its regular monthly meeting. The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the district administrative offices on Croton Avenue. The board postponed its meeting last Wednesday because of the weather.
