PROMOTIONS
Officer Candidate School
Army 2nd Lt. Shannon D. Walls was promoted to his present rank after graduating from the 14-week Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga. He is the nephew of Yvonne Wynn of Dickey Drive and brother of Michael Walls of York Street, both of Warren. Walls graduated in 1992 from Warren G. Harding High School, Warren; received an associate degree in 1998 from Central Texas College, Killeen, and earned a bachelor's degree in 2000 from Western Kentucky University.
Recruitment officer
Ohio Army National Guard Master Sgt. Donald M. Shiley was promoted to his present rank while serving as the noncommissioned officer in charge of operations for the Recruit Sustainment Program at the Recruiting and Retention Battalion in Columbus. Shiley was formerly the first sergeant for Bravo Co., 237th Forward Support Battalion, in Newton Falls.
DEPLOYED
Supporting operations
Army Reserve Spec. Charles V. Wilson is scheduled to be deployed to a forward-operating location in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom as a member of the Multi-Functional Support Command. He will be assigned to the 88th Regional Readiness Command, U.S. Army Reserve, based in Rock Island, Ill. Wilson, a light-wheel vehicle mechanic, is the son of Doreen E. Wilson of Salem. His wife, Dorothy, is the daughter of Jim Meyers of Salem.

Columbiana brothers, Army Specialist Kevin M Siembida and Pfc. David G. Siembida, have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, respectively.
Kevin is an infantryman with 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, based at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He is a 2004 graduate of Crestview High School.
David is a combat engineer with 4th Brigade in the 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, N.C. He is a 2001 graduate of Crestview High School.
The brothers are the sons of Gail and George Siembida of Columbiana.

Army Pfc. Christopher J. Marks has graduated from Phase I of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal course at Redstone Arsenal, Ala. Marks is the son of David A. Marks of Vancouver, Wash., and Kathryn L. Dailey of Greenville, Pa., and is a 2006 graduate of Reynolds Junior-Senior High School, Transfer, Pa.
Enrolled in program
Army 2nd Lt. Sean M. Spanbauer has enrolled in the two-year Military-Baylor University Graduate Program in Nutrition at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He is the grandson of Robert L. and Marilyn J. Spanbauer of Salem, and graduated in 1995 from Salem Senior High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2006 from Kent State University. His wife, Tracey, is the daughter of Sandra Scarberry of Ravenna.

Aerospace apprentice
Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class James R. Johnson has graduated from the Aerospace Propulsion Apprentice (turboprop/shaft) Course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, and will be assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing, Youngstown-Warren Air Reserve Station, Vienna. He is the son of Joe and Patty Johnson of Sandy Lake, Pa., and a 2006 graduate of Lakeview High School, Stoneboro, Pa.
