Fitch trails Kenston in Division I tourney

AUSTINTOWN -- Kenston High School took a slim lead over Austintown Fitch (92-90.5) after Friday's first day of the Division I sectional wrestling tournament at Fitch High School.
Boardman was third with 90 points and Twinsburg fourth with 83.5.
The meet continued at 9 a.m. today.
Wrestling semifinal matches for the Falcons today will be Shawn Ague, 103 pounds; Zack Martin, 119; Tony Jameson, 135; Jake Keller 145; Brian Weidenthal, 152; J.J. Pankewicz, 160; Matt Kuti, 189 and Chris Miller, 275.
Reaching the semifinals for Boardman were Jerry Pasquale, 103; Ricky Zupko, 112; Jeff Liggit, 125; Mike Rosa, 130; Joe Molina, 135; Anthony Wills, 140; Bobby Creatore, 145; Nick DeMarinis, 152; Weston Rajkovich, 160 and Justin Powell, 215.
Howland, which scored 72.5 points after three rounds, had Kyle Leek, 119; Tyler Rubesich, 125; Greg Ryan, 130; Adam Rubesich, 145; Mike Kreatsoulas, 189 and Dwaine Thomas, 275, reach the semifinals.
Championship and consolations in each weight class get underway at 4 p.m. with the top four athletes advancing to the district meet at Perry.
Division III at Rootstown
ROOTSTOWN -- The Division III sectional wrestling tournament got through two rounds of action Friday at Rootstown High School.
Woodridge leads with 90.5 points as action resumed this morning. Berkshire was second with 70 points, while Brookfield was third with 67.
Tyler Thompson of Brookfield, Kyle Descenna of Warren JFK and Jared Miller of South Range were wrestling in 103-pound quarterfinal matches.
Also wrestling for Jackson-Milton in the quarterfinals were Santino Pizzuto, 112; Matt Mascioll, 119; Jeff Dawson, 125; Matt Hospondar, 130; Ben Dierkes, 135: Joe Skaggs, 145; Bryan Gibbs, 152; Anthony Tomaino, 160; Kyle Yaratch, 171; Dan Clawson, 189; Ryan Clawson, 215 and Jeff Yaratch, 275.
Brookfield's quarterfinal wrestlers are Tanner Thompson, 112; Marcell Vitello, 119; Tristan Thompson, 125; Dan Miller, 130; Brad Harnett, 135; Cody Thompson, 140; Mike Bender, 152; Ross Tice, 160; Jeff Henson, 215 and Tim Cree, 275.
