Canfield, Howland clinch



Harding, Columbiana and Lowellville cruised to victory.
POLAND -- Kate Popovec scored eight of her 28 points in the first quarter as Canfield took a 20-6 lead, then added 20 points in the second half as the Cardinals clinched a share of the Metro Athletic Conference title with a 64-40 win over Poland Saturday.
Jillian Halfhill added 16 points for the Cardinals (17-2, 13-1), who have won three straight league titles. Howland, which split its season series with Canfield, also earned a share of the title.
Canfield will carry a five-game winning streak into today's game against Boardman.
Kellee Davis, Julia Johnson and Julie Berend each had eight points for Poland (9-10, 6-7).
Howland 91, Niles 26
HOWLAND -- Ellie Shields had 27 points for the Tigers (18-2, 13-1), who won their first MAC title since 2002.
Alexa Williams added 10 points and four steals, while Kelly Barzak had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Ursuline 69, East Palestine 28
HANOVERTON -- Dominique Jenkins scored 19 points to lead Ursuline in the first round of the Div. III sectional at United High.
Warren Harding 58, Chaney 37
WARREN -- Jasmine Kirkland accumulated 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead Harding (7-13).
A 20-point second quarter lifted the Raiders to a 34-19 lead at the break.
Jamie Soos paced Chaney with nine points.
Columbiana 56, Lordstown 26
HUBBARD -- Katie Douglas scored 19 points and Krista Johnson added 16 on four 3-point goals as Columbiana won its opener in the Division IV sectional tournament game.
The Clippers (15-6) never trailed and held Lordstown to just seven total points in the second half.
Brianna Blodgett was the top scorer for Lordstown (5-16) with 11 points.
Lowellville 68, Southern 26
HUBBARD -- Ali Grapevine scored 12 points in the opening quarter and sparked Lowellville to a 17-9 lead they never relinquished in a Div. IV sectional game.
Grapevine finished with 20 points while Jacquen Schrader added 14 on four 3-point goals and Kristen Pallozzi added 13 for the Rockets (20-1).
Southern (2-18) was led by Emily Ramsey and Hannah Kelm with eight points each.
Wellsville 56,Tuscarawas Valley 42
UHRICHSVILLE -- Jasmine Richardson collected 21 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Tigers (13-8) in the Div. IV tournament at Claymont High School.
Hannah Pachel scored 13 points for Tusky Valley (12-9) which trailed just 41-34 entering the final quarter.
