YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State's season-opening doubleheader against Dayton Saturday was canceled because of inclement weather.
Youngstown State will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, Feb. 23 for a three-game series against Stephen F. Austin.

Prep makeups
*YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Christian boys basketball team will play Mooney in a makeup date on Saturday in Mooney's gym.
The junior varsity game will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity game.
*CANFIELD -- Canfield High will play Boardman in a girls varsity basketball game Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be preceded at 2 p.m. by the junior varsity contest.
*RAVENNA -- Due to water damage at Southeast High School, Saturday's Southeast-Crestwood girls game will be played at Ravenna High. The junior varsity game will start at noon with the varsity to follow. The game will be for the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division title.
Southeast boys will play at Waterloo on Saturday with the junior varsity game starting at 6 p.m.
Thunder tickets
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Thunder will hold a second "Select Your Seat Night" at the Chevrolet Centre Feb. 20.
The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Season tickets start at 120.
Umpires meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Metro Umpire Association will hold an OHSAA baseball/softball meeting Sunday at St. Nicholas Activity Center, Shady Run Road, at 1:15 p.m.
Major league umpire Wally Bell will be guest speaker.
Umpires must attend at least four local meetings to meet state requirements.

Dave Pavlanskyselected for camp
BOARDMAN -- Boardman High boys track coach Dave Pavlansky was chosen to attend the "Emerging Elite Track and Field Coaches Camp" this week in Orlando.
The selection was made by the United States Association of Track Coaches and the United States Olympic Committee, the governing bodies of track and field in our country. There are five event camps; sprints, hurdles, endurance, throws, jumps and only 10 coaches from across the country were selected to attend in each event camp.
Coaches were nominated and selected based on their proven abilities to develop high school athletes in their respective events to at least state and national levels, and their projected potential to develop future Olympic medalists. Pavlansky, who has coached track at Boardman since 1989 and has been head coach since 2000, is attending the endurance sessions of the camp.
CPR class
SALEM -- The Salem Community Center will be have an American Red Cross coaches CPR class from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 28.
The class will focus only on adult CPR skills. American Red Cross standards have changed. The class can be taken by anyone who has been certified or anyone needing certified for the first time.
The cost is 20 for SCC members and 25 for non-members. People may register at the SCC's front desk.
Jason Zillo promoted by New York Yankees
NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees have promoted Ursuline High graduate Jason Zillo to Director of Media Relations.
Zillo, who graduated from Ohio University in 1995 with a communications degree, has worked in the Yankees Media Relations Department for 11 years.
Zillo joined the Yankees as an intern prior to the 1996 season and became assistant director to Rick Cerrone in 1998. Since 2004, Zillo has been Associate Director of Media.
Women's bowling
GIRARD -- The 15th annual senior tournament of the Youngstown USBC Women's Bowling Association will be March 10 at 2 p.m. and March 11 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Kay Lanes.
Age classifications will be: 55 to 59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-76 and 77 years and older.
Entry fee of 15 should be made payable to the Youngstown USBC women's senior tournament and mailed to Betty Kana, 2936 Eddie Street, Youngstown 44509 before March 5. Entry forms are available at all area bowling centers.
Sciarra Siding and Earl Winner Agency are senior tourney co-sponsors.
Division winners will receive first-place prize money and a paid entry into the 2008 Youngstown USBC women's senior tournament.

PITTSBURGH -- Individual game tickets for the Pirates' 2007 home season will go on sale March 3 at 10 a.m.
