Doggie therapy at Shepherd of the Valley

BOARDMAN — Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman has a new family member, and that’s something that sits well with Mae Duke.

“I think she’s swell; she’s a good little dog,” said Duke, a resident of the facility on West Boulevard.

Duke was referring to Bailey, a 2-year-old German shepherd/golden retriever mix who arrived at the rehabilitation center Friday from Angels for Animals in Canfield.

For a while, the facility had been looking for a canine companion to be certified as part of a pet therapy program for any of the home’s 149 residents.
