Police announce resolution of 2001 shooting case

YOUNGSTOWN — A 2001 cold murder case has been solved with the arrest of Shon D. Rankin, police say.

Rankin, 27, is accused in the June 9, 2001, shooting death of Raymond Hayes, 32, of Mistletoe Avenue. Vindicator files show Hayes was shot about 2:40 a.m. in parking lot of Larry’s Lounge on Hillman Street on the South Side and found across the street in the parking lot of Fran’s Hilltop II, 2326 Hillman St.

Police Chief Jimmy Hughes announced Rankin’s capture at a press conference at police headquarters downtown today.
