Patrol, city cops work 12-hour crackdown
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was out in force in Youngstown Thursday as part of a new joint effort with city police, enforcing traffic laws on state and U.S. routes in the city, with the idea of reducing fatal crashes, said Sgt. John Altman of the OSHP’s Canfield post. The crackdown lasted from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., said Altman.
He said troopers stopped drivers for traffic violations, but were also on the lookout for illegal weapons and drugs. He said there were no statistics available yet on how many cars were stopped or what troopers found. Youngstown police also did not have statistics available Thursday evening. Troopers involved in the effort are mainly from Canfield’s post, but there are some others from posts in northeast Ohio, Altman said.
